Oh Happy Day! Xur is back and is no longer bugged. That means the armor he sells is once again rolling with the correct stat distribution, albeit with the slight caveat of Bungie that a: “fix caused an issue… where the stats advertised on the Xûr’s inventory screen may be slightly different from the item you receive.” Oh Xur!
This week it can be found on Winding Cove Area in the EDZ. Go straight from the spawn and he’ll be lurking on the cliffs to the right of the crashed ship. If in doubt, look for a group of player names by also paying them a visit.
Xur arrives at 1pm EST / 9am PDT / 5pm GMT, and exits when the game is restarted on the following Tuesday. This week’s products can be found below, along with my recommendations. As long as you have the shards to spare, I’d advise picking up any Exotics you don’t already have, so they’ll be added to your potential loot pool for future loot.
Exotic Hunter Gauntlets
Exotic benefits: “You specialize in punishing powerful combatants before they can harm their allies.”
Recommendation: The Aeon gauntlets (each class has its own version) are no longer an ignored meme for the meta in Grandmaster Nightfalls. You can specify them in three different ways, but by far the most popular is the Sect of Insight, which generates powerful ammo for your allies when you finish off champions. This season, the effects double with the artifact’s Lucent Finisher, resulting in double drops of purple bricks. In addition to the lack of mobility, there is also a bad distribution of stats.
Exotic Witch Gloves
Exotic benefits: “Resist damage taken while charging your Void Grenade. Charged Void Grenades return grenade energy on a hit.”
Recommendation: Despite having a very powerful effect – you’ll feel like a pyromaniac on crack as you launch solar nades everywhere – Sunbracers tend to see the game in lower end content where it’s easier to take out melee kills. Try them out in the Strike playlist when the Brawler modifier is active and watch the world burn. It’s a shame there’s so much resilience in stat propagation.
Titan exotic boots
Exotic benefits: “Move faster while guarding when Sentry Shield is active. Protected damage converts to Super energy when Super ends.”
Recommendation: Another exotic that is better suited for endgame activities like raids and Grandmaster Nightfalls because it benefits from taking a lot of incoming shots. Ursa’s gauntlets grant increased uptime for her super Banner Shield, which now grants a 40% damage bonus to allies who fire through it, allowing your team to stay alive during risky DPS phases.
Exotic Kinetic Hand Cannon
Exotic Benefit: “Deaths with this weapon heal the wielder. Precision kills also replenish the magazine.”
Recommendation: The instant heal on kill effect makes Crimson solid in PvP and very useful in PvE, particularly when playing solo where staying alive is crucial. Think about day one raids and trying to perfect dungeons. It also pairs very well with Lucky Pants Hunter Exotic Boots due to its high rate of fire.
Legendary Armor and Weapons
Each week, Xur brings a variety of armor that can no longer be purchased in-game. Perfect for transmog purposes as we all know that creating killer tweaks is the true endgame. They’re also now rolling with correct stat distributions – which isn’t to say they’re all good, but there’s at least a chance!
This week’s set is the Anti-Extinction Gear from the now-defunct Dead Orbit faction. Decent for edgelord monochrome adjustments. In terms of stats, each class has a good chest piece and the titan boots are also worth a look.
|Armor/Class||Hunter – Anti-Extinction||Warlock – Anti-Extinction||Titan – Anti-Extinction|
He also has a weapon bag for sale, which, thanks to its random nature, can occasionally include a god roll perk combo. Both weapons and armor cost 50 Legendary Shards and 1,000 Glimpses per purchase. There are few choices this week. Frozen Orbit can be good in PvP as a super assassin thanks to Vorpal Weapon, and Osmosis on the Dire Promise can be fun with the Void 3.0 Volatile Rounds builds, but honestly nothing stands out.
|Seventh Seraphim SAW||390 RPM LMG||Power||bow||grave robber||Mulligan||recharge|
|terrible promise||140 RPM Hand Cannon||Primary||Kinetic||snapshot||Osmosis||Stability|
|widow bite||140 RPM sniper rifle||Special||Solar||pulse monitor||demolisher||reach|
|Imperial Needle||light bow||Primary||Empty||Killer Wind||opening shot||draw time|
|frozen orbit||72 RPM sniper rifle||Special||Empty||Bandit||Vorpal Weapon||reach|
|ignition code||light grenade launcher||Special||Kinetic||field preparation||demolisher||recharge|
|Wolftone design||precision bow||Primary||bow||stealth bow||Harmony||draw time|
Finally, squidface sells a randomly rolled version of of the dead man Tale and hawk moon (i.e. some of the perks change every week), which can be found on the second tab of your inventory.
These weapons were previously only obtainable through their own secret missions, which have since gone at sunset. Its cost is punitively high in 125k glow, 200 legendary shards, 1 ascending shard and an exotic cipher. However, both are great weapons, so if you didn’t pick them up when they were available, or Xur is selling a better roll than what you have, it’s still worth paying.
Dead Man’s Tale
120 RPM Exotic Scout Rifle
Barrel: Hammerforged Rifling
Magazine: Armor Piercing Projectiles
Perk: Kill Wind
Inventory: Adjusted Inventory
Exotic Benefit: “Chaining precision hits grants bonus damage and accelerates reload speed.”
Recommendation: A solid but unspectacular roll in DMT this week. As noted earlier, Armor-Piercing Rounds synergizes well with the Artifact’s Anti-Barrier scout mod this season.
140 RPM Exotic Kinetic Hand Cannon
Barrel: Chamber Compensator
Magazine: League Magazine
Grip: Heavy Grip
Exotic Benefit: “Final blows and precision hits with Hawk’s Moon grant stacks of Paracausal Charge. The final round in the magazine deals bonus damage based on the number of stacks. Holding Hawk’s Moon in the final round removes this bonus.”
Recommendation: It’s also not an extremely inspirational reel about it. Quickdraw isn’t the one-time advantage, and Chambered Compensator and Heavy Grip both hamper handling. Wait for something spicier.
Before you go, don’t forget to pick up the Exotic Cipher quest if you haven’t already. It’s free and will allow you to earn a random exotic just for completing a set amount of activities in the playlist. Until next week for more mild disappointment.
