A new trailer for Ugly (opens in new tab) appeared during today’s Guerrilla Collective online showcase, giving us a fresh take on the “dark, twisted fairy tale” platformer about a tormented nobleman forced to explore the deepest recesses of his mind to finally face trauma. of your past.
Ugly uses a “mirror mechanic” that allows players to create and switch places with a reflection of the main character to solve puzzles and navigate a world “full of secrets and awash with tragedies”. Most puzzles have multiple solutions and each will add a new piece to the story when solved, but that’s not your only problem here: you’ll also need to overcome a series of “huge bosses” to get to the end.
What really stands out to me, though, is the visual style. Ugly is anything but ugly: it’s bright, colorful, bizarre and looks like it would be a fun place if it weren’t for all the sadness and horror. At the very least, it promises to be a fascinating place to explore.
Ugly is scheduled to come out sometime in 2023 and is on the wish list at Steam (opens in new tab). Check out some screenshots below.
