Thomas the Tank Engine is on Elden Ring now

What’s with Thomas the Tank Engine? The smiling, wide-eyed locomotive is everywhere: Monster Hunter: World, kingdom hearts 3, fallout 4, ResIevil tooth 2, hell he’s even in Valheim. And now, courtesy of the new Sentinel Tree Thomas Modhe has taken his inevitable place in the Elden Ring.

The Tree Sentinel is an optional boss in Elden Ring that appears very early in the game – you can see one almost as soon as you go out into the world. And they are hard to miss: they are large, armored humanoids riding large armored steeds and carrying shields and battle axes that are disproportionately massive, even compared to the Sentinels’ disproportionate structures. In other words, downright intimidating, at least when you first encounter them.

This mod takes some of that advantage by replacing the Sentinel’s mighty horse with the grinning, wide-eyed Thomas. He moves like a horse, sounds like a horse, but there’s no mistaking that blue and red paint, or those dead eyes and rictus smile. But based on the test video above, it’s not just the Sentry steed that gets the Thomas treatment: you ride Thomas too! If that’s what you like, I mean.

The only downside to this mod is that it is more complex than most to install. Instead of just dropping DLL files into the “mods” folder (and ensuring you’re playing offline), you’ll need to unzip your game using a modified version of UXM to unzip and patch the game, then unzip the Thomas mod file in Elden Ring folder. It’s a lot – frankly, more than I’m prepared to admit.

Honestly, even if it was a direct DLL drop, I don’t think I would want to play with this mod running full time. Thomas is cute, but man, is he shocked. And I want to be the guy who buried an iron blade in the boy’s forehead? I think not. I don’t need it on my conscience.
