In April, PuffPals: Island Skies released a kickstarter (opens in new tab) and raised over $2.5 million to create a cute life simulation game where you make animal friends, build a farm and decorate your house. With its colorful aesthetic and stubby little characters, it looks like Animal Crossing, except it won’t be tied to a Nintendo platform when it launches.
PuffPals: Island Skies is set on floating pieces of land that have plenty of room for you to build your farm. There are a lot of animal friends up there, like a raccoon and a chicken that sells bread. In the Wholesome Direct trailer, we see what look like little quests you can do for potential animal friends to build a relationship with them.
There are also several ways to customize your sky island. The trailer showcases the ability to move and place furniture around your house, as well as organize your farm (and grow the cutest carrot you’ve ever seen). It’s unclear whether you choose a specific island to call home or travel to others throughout the game.
Character customization also feels much more robust than Animal Crossing. There are a variety of hairstyle and clothing options to choose from – perhaps there will be hats and other accessories to unlock later.
PuffPals: Island Skies doesn’t have an exact release date, but its Kickstarter rewards suggest it will release sometime in 2023.
