The Witcher on Netflix reveals four new cast members

Netflix has announced four new cast members who will be joining The Witcher season 3and this may come as a surprise (or maybe not), but none of them promise to make the Northern Kingdoms a safer and more stable place.

In no particular order, here are the newcomers:

Gallatin, the head of a Scoia’tael army fighting alongside Nilfgaard in his war against the Northern kingdoms. The Scoia’tael, known colloquially as the Chipmunks, are a rebel army of non-humans (mostly elves) fighting for their own homeland. Robbie Amell, cousin of Arrow star Stephen Amell, also recently played Chris Redfield in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Milva, played by Meng’er Zhang, is a human archer from Upper Sodden who crossed paths with the dryads while poaching in Brokilon Forest. Instead of killing her, they took her in and she aided them in their efforts to lure and kill dryad hunters. Part of her in the ruse was eventually discovered, however, forcing her to flee.

Hugh Skinner’s Prince Radovid, King Vizimir’s younger brother, looks like the party boy in the family, but he’s at least as sharp and dangerous as his older brother. Expect mischief.

Last but not least, Mistle, played by Christelle Elwin, is a member of a violent gang called the Rats, who develop a complicated relationship with Ciri.

It looks like Netflix will continue to lean on the political intrigue that began to flourish in The Witcher season 2: Radovid’s presence in particular points to ugly backstage politics in the north that could have a serious impact on the Nilfgaardian invasion. while the arrival of the Scoia’tael as a significant force will presumably illuminate the extreme prejudice and violence faced by the world’s non-humans.

For a closer look at these new characters, with fair warning of major spoilers, you can head over to the unofficial Witcher Wiki for details on milva, Radovidand mist—Gallatin is deleted, leading me to assume he is an original creation for the Netflix series. The Witcher season 3 officially entered production in early April. There’s no release date yet, but I personally don’t expect it to appear until sometime in 2023.
