The Witcher 4 is already in pre-production

The wheels seem to be turning smoothly the witch 4 (opens in new tab), the next big game in development at CD Projekt. Just a few months after the studio confirmed that it is indeed working on a new Witcher game, CD Projekt’s chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said development is now in the “pre-production” phase.

“We recently closed the research phase, which means the project has already moved into pre-production and we have started to capitalize on the development expenses related to this new game,” Nielubowicz said in a video highlighting the financial results.

“We are very much looking forward to revisiting the universe that shaped our story to such an extent,” added CEO Adam Kiciński in a separate statement. demonstration (opens in new tab).

Separating the “research” and “pre-production” phases of The Witcher 4’s development might seem difficult, but I’m willing to be generous in this case because apparently the game won’t just continue Geralt’s adventures. . CD Projekt said it will be an “all-new saga”, possibly featuring a new wizard school school (opens in new tab) that does not appear in Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. Fitting entirely original characters and content into the existing Witcher world puts a lot more weight on developers’ shoulders.

The complete development of The Witcher 4 is still a long way off: the number of people on the project is growing, but most of the development team at CD Projekt is focused on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. This remains to be expected to be released. sometime in 2023 (opens in new tab).
