The Stalker Survarium online FPS will close next week after 7 years in early access

The Stalker-style online FPS survarium (opens in new tab) will permanently close at 23:59 Kiev time on May 31, developer Vostok Games said today. The game will also be removed from Steam.

“A bittersweet day approaches”, Vostok I wrote (opens in new tab). “On the one hand it’s good to look to our future, but on the other hand it’s hard to say goodbye to an old friend.

“We really cannot express our gratitude for all your many years of support, players new and old. Through the ups and downs, many of you have stood by us in solidarity. This is truly something special that we will always be grateful for. We will always have fond memories of this book! A new chapter awaits us and our eyes are firmly focused on the work that lies ahead.”

Vostok said in March that it was taking “a break from our work (opens in new tab)” because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which forced part of the development team located in the capital Kiev to relocate to other parts of the country. The studio did not say what impact the invasion had on the decision to close Survarium, if any, but the game closure was actually announced in february 7th (opens in new tab)just a few weeks before the start of the all-out invasion of Ukraine.

Despite having been around for nearly a decade, Survarium never made it to full release: the most recent update, 0.69d, released in February, and remains an early access game in Steam (opens in new tab). Vostok did not say what he will do next, but encouraged fans to “follow our social media pages for all future Vostok Games news.”
