Elden ring has suffered some pretty significant stutters since its release, and while developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco have recognized the issue and are working on fixes, we haven’t seen it yet. As our EiC Evan says, Elden Ring proves that frame rate isn’t everythingbut it would definitely be nice to play without stuttering ending your mission prematurely.
A recent patch for Elden Ring, 1.03, has just been released, and with it some new fixes and questline levels, NPCs, and even useful map markers. Although among the extensive Elden Ring patch notesthere was also the vague promise of “other performance fixes and bug fixes”.
You can see above an example of some of the stutters in version 1.03 of the game. So unfortunately these “performance fixes” aren’t the kind that eliminate in-game stutter entirely in our experience. While there is a bug fix for “shutdowns on certain occasions” that might be useful for some, but it’s certainly not the general fix we’ve seen.
I just walked through Stormveil Castle and tried not to die long enough to see if the stutter persists in version 1.03, and it does. I haven’t noticed any performance improvements either, but it seems that the bug fixes with this release are more specifically tailored to certain instances than any comprehensive fix for performance issues.
So we’ll have to wait a little longer, but at least we know FromSoftware is working on a fix for Elden Ring. Going forward, we expect to add ray tracing support as well, so you really expect the performance issues to be fixed by the time the update reaches us.
