Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Revenge of the Destroyers (opens in new tab) promises the same magic you felt in a pizza parlor arcade in the ’90s, and now it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer: the game launches on June 16 and features fan-favorite Casey Jones as a playable character.
Shredder’s Revenge primarily builds on the legacy of Turtles in Time, which is probably what you’re thinking of if you’re picturing a turtle fighter in your head. Shredder’s Revenge is co-created by Dotemu and Tribute Games, developers of Streets of Rage 4 and Panzer Paladin, respectively. For our April cover story, we saw demo footage of the game’s vibrant pixel art and advancements to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat ’em up formula, such as character-differentiated move sets and improved hit tracking. From the game’s Steam page:
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge features innovative gameplay rooted in timeless classic fighting mechanics, brought to you by the beat ’em up experts at Dotemu (Streets of Rage 4) and Tribute Games. , each with their own abilities and moves – making each run unique! Choose a fighter, use extreme combos to defeat your opponents, and experience intense combat loaded with breathtaking action and outrageous ninja skills. Stay sharp as you take on the Shredder and your trusty Foot Clan alone, or grab your best friends and play with up to four players simultaneously!”
The final trailer for the game revealed the inclusion of the badass 90s parody Casey Jones along with its impending release date. I’ll be interested to see how this hockey-mask brute fits into the balance of characters we showed earlier this spring – unlike the original games, each character in Shredder’s Revenge is balanced to offer tradeoffs in terms of speed, range and attack power.
The Destroyer’s Revenge will be available for purchase on Steam (opens in new tab) from the 16th of June.
