Starfield gameplay trailer shows you can build, man and yes, pilot your spaceship

Today on Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, fans finally finally got what they wanted since 2018. The first gameplay trailer for Starfield is here, and you might be stunned by the new screenshots above.

Just as importantly, Bethesda has answered some important questions about space travel, planetary exploration, and more. Starfield will feature over 1,000 different planets, and according to Todd Howard, all of them will be fully explorable.

In the gameplay trailer, we see the player land on a new planet, observe some alien life forms and extract some resources from a rocky wall. They then find a pirate-controlled facility. There are gunfights, grenades thrown and a space shotgun is used to finish off the bad guys. The player finds a new weapon before facing more pirates outside and using a jetpack to launch across a gap and face more enemies.

The action then switches to a capital city, New Atlantis, to meet some NPCs and a brief conversation about mysterious artifacts and “visions”. So Todd Howard gave us a look at Starfield’s character creation tools and starting features, which include both advantages and disadvantages.

We expected Skyrim in space, but honestly, it feels a little more like Fallout in space with crafting weapons and building outposts. But a long-standing question has finally been answered. You will also be able to build your own spaceship and crew it with NPCs of your choice. And yes, you can fly. Fight ship to ship in outer space? Confirmed.

It’s been a long wait for loyal Bethesda astronauts. starfield (opens in new tab) was first announced at Bethesda’s E3 press conference in 2018. It took another three years before the official cinematic teaser trailer was shown in June 2021. Originally planned for release on 11/11/22, Bethesda announced in June 2021. May that Starfield would be delayed until 2023. Now we know exactly when we’re going to play.
