As written in the farm life simulator bylaws, Stardew Valley begins the way many do: with your character inheriting a piece of land from his dear, deceased relative. In Stardew, your kind old grandpa has a quick farewell scene on a rather shabby-looking deathbed, where he’s conveying his last wishes for you to take over the family farm. Enter the modders, who years ago took pity on grandpa and gave you a better bed. Suddenly, the community is obsessed with giving grandpa the most inglorious death possible.
as seen by Gamesradara Stardew modder on the game’s subreddit gathered several new mods in the self-declared “dying grandpa rebirth”. There has certainly been an influx of new grandpa death scenes, but if I’m not sure rebirth is the artistic nomenclature I would choose. These farewells to grandpa are somewhere between surrealism and postmodernism.
Here are all the dying grandpa mods, sorted chronologically and by increasing measures of depravity:
In which grandpa fell and doesn’t get up.
Grandpa’s bed is almost imperceptibly worse than the original.
Undeniably worse than the original, Grandpa is dead, surrounded by flies, with no bed in sight.
Are we sure grandpa is really dead in this one?
In which the cause of death was a violent backhand drive by Evelyn.
“I have attached the deed to that place…” and his own body.
Grandpa isn’t dead, just gone.
A truly Dalí concept.
In which Joja Cola is apparently not just a soda. You know, like the old days when they did this to the real Joja.
How dare grandpa go out of town and leave Robin without customers?
At least in the last one, grandpa isn’t really dead. Presumably, he’s still dead for the rest of the game, with his grave on the farm and all. It’s just a moment of relief for the old man.
Modder Beepsignal (Family Guy’s Death Pose, Grandpa) also kindly provided a Intro without grandpa download so other modders can use it as a model for their own geriatric antics. Go out there and make grandpa experience even greater levels of ignominy as he crawls into the afterlife, kids.
