Stack cards to build villages in Stacklands

The team of absolute gaming machines at Sokpop collective (opens in new tab) having a new success, at least for me, in Stacklands – it’s building the city through cards. By stacking cards, you build a cute little village, chopping logs, extracting rocks, growing food, and building the houses and sheds (oh, so many sheds) to hold it all. As you expand, you can sell surplus resources for cash, which you exchange for new, random card packs to use to grow even more.

It’s something like the same set of mechanics that Cultist Simulator (opens in new tab), but less aggressively mysterious and therefore less frustrating if you fail. For example, idea cards can be found in many packages, and these have only one job: telling you what to combine for an effect. You can then sell ideas for a little bonus money.

Completing quests and building eventually allows you to survive long enough for strange new things to start happening… like strange portals. Maybe you should make some spears. Those can come in handy eventually.

Stacklands took me about five hours to beat and it costs $5, which for my money is pretty good. You can find Stacklands on (opens in new tab) and on Steam. (opens in new tab)
