After running a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2018 and being featured last year Future Games Showsci-fi action RPG Dolmen is now available on Steam for $40. Aside from Dolmen, the only other listed project from Massive Work is a rhythm game called “Tap Hitz”, so this full-on action RPG is a pretty impressive first effort for the studio.
Dolmen takes place on the alien world of Revion Prime and asks players to secure samples of the titular crystal in the name of human advancement. Probably nothing to worry about, nothing nefarious about using Dolmen in the name of human advancement.
It doesn’t look like the same kind of knowledge festival like your typical FromSoftware offering, but has a striking neon look that reminds me more of Digital Extremes’ action MMO Warframe. Combat feels like classic Souls, with lavishly telegraphed blocking and dodging enemy attacks, as well as unique move sets tied to weapon archetypes.
I’ll be curious to see how Massive Work Studio has balanced the game’s extensive arsenal of ranged weapons as well. FromSoft’s ranged options might be a little late, but 2019’s Remnant: From the Ashes did a great job combining Soulsborne’s flow with third-person shooters.
