After a long (long) wait, Blizzard announced today that the overwatch 2 The PvP beta will start on April 26th with new heroes, maps and 5v5 gameplay. The announcement comes a week after Blizzard began a closed alpha of the sequel and opened beta sign-ups on its website.
Blizzard talked more about the ongoing alpha during a developer live stream today. We learned a little more about upcoming hero reworks and what exactly the April PvP beta will be. Details are still pretty light, but here’s what beta players can expect:
- new hero: Staya Canadian (so she’s automatically my favorite) with an armored parka and a firearm.
- new mode: To push – Teams fight to take control of a robot that starts at a central location on a symmetrical map and then pushes it towards the enemy base. Any team can take control of the robot at any time. The team that pushes the robot the furthest to the enemy side wins the game.
- four new maps: Circuit Royal (Escort), Midtown (Hybrid), New Queen Street (Push) and Colosseo (Push)
- hero reworks: Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion and Shadow
- New ping system
Also, Doomfist is apparently a tank now. Certified, even.
Testing will take place in a series of closed betas, the first starting on April 26. If you want to participate – and you probably do, as you’re reading this – you can apply for admission at playoverwatch. with.
