New Minecraft RTS will finally let you control mobs to fight the Nether

Minecraft Legends has just been announced on the Xbox and Bethesda non-E3 showcase. Rumors are circulating about a new Minecraft spin-off and now we know it’s an action strategy game coming in 2023. And it looks equal parts adorable and pretty badass, in fact.

The story the CG trailer weaves together is that you are uniting the land to face an evil force. While unspoken, it certainly sounds like this means you’ll be making an army of mobs to fight the Nether. Classic Minecraft stuff with a whole new look. Of course, the basic blocky visuals are intact, but you’ll be playing from a broad third-person perspective to get an overview of the land.

And unlike the original Minecraft, there seems to be some auto-building to make it easier, so you can get back to destroying your enemies. Riding through the world on horseback, you will have the ability to summon some beings for support, fight hordes of bandits and face huge fortresses with your army. It’s a lot of action for a game that looks pretty good.

The trailer shows that the tagline is “Untie the Overworld”, so I imagine as you play you become more powerful and take on more influence over bigger and bigger mobs. Minecraft Legends is expected to arrive sometime in 2023 and will be available, of course, on Xbox Game Pass, Consoles, PC, and Cloud.
