More Citizen Sleeper is on the way with first free episode next month

Citizen Sleeper is not over yet. Developer Jump Over The Edge’s dark, cyberpunk narrative game has three free updates on the way, with the first coming next month.

The first episode, Flux, takes place on the same rusty space station you explore in the base game and focuses on a group of refugees. The new character Eshe is “a stubborn and determined spacer whose fate is intertwined with that of the flotilla of refugees that has begun to reach the Eye”. You’ll have to roll the dice through her story and make decisions about how to deal with a threat that affects the entire season.

There’s not much more about Flux to go on, but this is adequate for a game about poking around mundane things until something interesting happens. In Citizen Sleeper, you play as a runaway robot and try to make the most of each day at the station, chasing clues and collecting enough money to eat. The clocks tick and the dice roll as you try to progress through multiple interconnected stories while trying to avoid getting caught by the corporation that wants your body back.

The game is about trying to survive one day at a time as a temp worker and the importance of friendships and community when you live precariously.

“We’ve all had days where we feel like we wake up after ‘everyone’: nothing goes right, and fate itself seems stacked against us,” said developer Damian Martin. last year. “For a temporary worker, that feeling is even more extreme, I think, as the support structures that other jobs have just don’t exist. Luck is much harder to mitigate when you’re living on the brink of poverty or homelessness. ceiling. you roll a bunch of ones and twos is how i make something of my day?”

Our own Jody Macgregor praised the writing in his review: “All this focus on the mundane, elimination and survival makes the occasional glimpse of something profound seem potent – perhaps a poetic depiction of the flowing cyberspace data cloud and the impossible entities that live in it, or the infinite physical space of the station turns, and the little individuals who find hope there.”

The next two episodes will continue the story and focus on other new characters. They are currently planned to be released in October and early 2023.
