Modified Elden Ring messaging system in Fallout: New Vegas

You can’t walk more than a few meters on Elden Ring without tripping. messages from other players. These messages can be helpful, harmful or silly, they can encourage players to jump off cliffs to certain death or look for secret doors where there aren’t any or alert them to a dog that surely is. no a dog. After 60 hours of play, these messages may even stay a little exasperatingbut they are a beloved tradition handed down from previous Dark Souls games.

But now Elden Ring isn’t the only open world RPG where you can find messages from other players that say “Try to jump”, “Liar ahead” and “Try the finger but the hole”. A modder has added an Elden Ring-like messaging system to Fallout: New Vegas so messengers can now communicate with each other.

The Building Bridges mod is a plugin created by modder Tomminfinite that allows New Vegas players to leave messages in the world for other players to find. Players with the mod installed will see messages exactly where another player left them, even if the other player left the message just minutes before. Below you can see the asynchronous multiplayer messaging system at work, where a player leaves a message to suggest “Try jumping” on top of a cliff, and another message that warns of a mine trap – although it is placed a little too close to the my own to be of much help. That’s good grief.

The messages placed in the world appear as worn-out sheets of paper on the floor, which fits very well with the post-apocalyptic New Vegas aesthetic. And, as in Elden Ring, players can rate each other’s messages, with positive ratings resulting in benefits for the message creator:

“People can leave likes on your message by increasing the message’s rating and your rating as well,” says the mod’s page. “Rating gives you levels. With each new level you have more posts you can post at the same time and your posts can be longer. You can’t see which posts you’re liking and the same goes for everyone else.”

See how it works:

  • To post your message – press “B” (by default) to launch the BB menu and choose “Post Message” option.
  • At level 1 you can have up to 20 messages at the same time containing up to 115 symbols.
  • Only ASCII characters (English alphabet) are currently supported.
  • To like another user’s message – activate the message and press “Like this message”.
  • You gain level by increasing your rank. Your ranking increases when people like your message.
  • You can only leave one message per cell (inside or outside).
  • Worldspace (non-interior) consists of small separate outer cells. You can see which cell you are in the BB menu.
  • Each outer cell can contain up to 10 messages. You usually have 8-9 non-internal cells loaded when you’re out.
  • Each inner cell can contain up to 35 messages.

Naturally, you will need an internet connection for the Building Bridges mod to work. The messages you post are sent to a server and the messages you find are downloaded from the same location. Well, Building Bridges is compatible with other mods, so if you are using a mod like Project Brazil or New Vegas Bounties, you can also leave and find messages in these spaces of the world. There is also a reporting system if you find a message that you find offensive.
