It’s time for a new season of Rainbow Six Siege, and that means another premium cosmetic partnership that has my head scratching a little. After dressing the Siege roster in compelling cosplays by Lara Croft, Leon Kennedy and Rick Sanchez, Ubisoft is now eyeing the most legendary Japanese gangster to ever throw a punch: Kazuma Kiryu from the Yakuza series.
The upcoming Yakuza Siege packs give two Japanese operators a makeover: drone specialist Echo becomes Kiryu and invader Hibana is Kaoru Sayama from the first three Yakuza games. Ubi also teased a third package to arrive at a later date, and the mysterious silhouette shown sure does look like Goro Majima.
The first two packages arrive on May 24th. Ubi didn’t mention a price, but judging by past partnerships, expect to pay around $20 (or 2160 R6 credits).
It’s been a little disheartening to see Siege’s consistent visual style erode over time with Fortnite-style brand partnerships (that Pickle Rick skin is really cursed), but I don’t mind Ubi’s recent premium packs. Siege’s Resident Evil skins are well done and I definitely want this pack from Kiryu even though he doesn’t usually use weapons.
I was starting to get the impression that Ubi is going back to cosmetics that don’t conflict with the game’s tactical swat aesthetic, but considering what a reliable Siege leaker thinks Nier: Automata is the next crossover, I may have spoken too soon.
