Kingdoms and Castles city builder gets AI factions in free expansion size upgrade

It’s probably been a minute since you thought kingdoms and castles (opens in new tab), a popular indie city builder released in 2017. Well, think again, because Kingdoms and Castles just got a big free update adding a slew of new stuff. Perhaps most shockingly, what was once a solitary survival game now has AI realms for you to trade, engage in diplomacy, and battle.

There are a number of other things added as well: sea gates to secure harbors, a fog of war system, siege equipment, transport carts for resources, new happiness buildings, a minimap, exploration ships, and stonemasons to maintain your buildings.

Back to our Chris Livingston release called Kingdoms and Castles “fun and joyful” which as a genre enthusiast I think is almost perfect. It’s colony builders’ lowest and highest fun, made to entertain rather than challenge. Except now it’s not so true! There’s a new survival mode that’s brutally difficult.

You can find Kingdoms and Castles at GO (opens in new tab), (opens in new tab)and Steam (opens in new tab).
