Keep your guests comfortable in this bed and breakfast simulator, and you’re a bear too

I know we’re not even halfway through this great summer gaming glut, but can we stop there? I found the game I want to play and I don’t need to see more games. Let’s just turn things off so I can go play Bear and breakfast (opens in new tab) when it launches next month.

In Bear and Breakfast you are a bear. His name is Hank. And you do what all nice and friendly bears dream of: you run and run an inn. Romanian developer Gummy Cat Studio explains this in their thread on Day of the Devs, explaining how, like Hank, you will renovate old buildings and fix them so they are suitable for guests. Every guest will have certain requirements, such as comfort levels, and you’ll need to live up to these expectations when designing furniture and placing amenities like showers and beds in your rooms.

But it’s not just about the beds, it’s also about the breakfasts. There’s a card-based cooking minigame, and you can see Hank trying to make a delicious pancake breakfast by playing cards of ingredients and instructions. There is also a story alongside “the usual management stuff”. There are characters to meet, like a ranger and other forest creatures, and a world outside the B&B for Hank to explore.

Bear and Breakfast is a relaxation management simulator that won’t rush you, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a little drama.

“There’s definitely not a spooky subplot lurking somewhere in the woods,” says game director Rares Cinteza as we watch Hank enter a dark and mysterious cave.

It sounds scary, but I’m sure whatever horror Hank finds in that cave will warm him up once he’s had a few pancakes and a good night’s sleep.

Bear and Breakfast will be released on Steam (opens in new tab) on July 28th, which is not enough for me.
