Hunt: Showdown Is Introducing Its Most Disruptive New Enemy in Years

Major Hunt: Confrontation updates like new maps and new bosses come at the pace of a well-dressed hunter walking through waist-high swamp water. So you might think getting excited about an update that adds pistol-wielding zombies is just a result of the Core Update Deprivation in the Hunt community, but it might actually be the most disturbing new monster the game has introduced in years.

Pistol grunts are one of several changes introduced in the upcoming 1.8.1 update. These grunts won’t be able to actually shoot you with their rusty weapons, but when attacking you melee, the weapon will fire a shot in the air before breaking. Probably more than any other shooter, Hunt: Showdown relies on sound to track enemies across the map, so a single pistol shot can really get in the way of a stealthy approach.

Essentially, pistol grunts will be the loudest noise traps in the game, so you’ll want to take them down quickly and for the love of gods don’t let them hit you.

Update 1.8.1 will also introduce flashlight grunts, which carry flashlights on and off. If you are hit by a lit lantern, you will be set on fire; if you are hit by a blackout, you will be doused in oil (which can later be set on fire). Things are going to get very dangerous out there.

A new quest system is also being introduced, which will replace the random daily and weekly challenges that players received until now. You will now be able to choose from nine tasks each week, each with its own reward and ‘star’ value. Thus, you receive a reward for each completed quest, and if you collect 30 stars in a week, you receive 25 Blood Bonds. The new system should offer a little more control for players to choose tasks according to their skill level and amount of time they spend in the game.
