Zero Gravity Rescue Sim Hardspace: DaredevilSteam Early Access’s two-year orbit is coming to an end next month when developer Blackbird Interactive opens the workshop for a full release on Steam and the Windows Store and Xbox Game Pass on May 24.
Hardspace, in case you missed it, is a deeply satisfying game about carving derelict spaceships from their orbital demolition yard, dismantling ships and freighters until they are nothing but spare parts and scrap. Of course, spacecraft are complicated beasts, and the threat of explosive decompression, engine core breaches, or being hit in the head by ten tons of loose steel is a constant occupational hazard.
At launch, all Hardspace had to offer was a handful of loose ships to unlock and dismantle – and honestly, that was all it really needed. But in the last couple of years, Blackbird has augmented the Breaker Ship with more ships, more tools, a house to decorate and even one fully dubbed campaign that delves deeper into the game’s critique of high-orbit labor violations.
Blackbird has yet to reveal what news will be arriving next month, though I’ll take on another story act to wrap up the campaign, and hopefully a few more ships and tools to boot.
