Final Fantasy 14 players can’t decide how to eat an egg

Mrhappy1227, a popular creator of Final Fantasy 14, is right. The MMO is soon getting a new Eat Egg emote – an emote that seems impractical, maybe even disturbing, if you’ve never considered the possibility of someone eating an egg. wrong. All we have now is a screenshot of a Lalafell holding what appears to be a hard-boiled egg with half its shell. What happens next is anyone’s guess, but whether the excitement to eat a egg is any indication, that whole thing is going into their mouths, rind and all.

The emote will be available as part of the Final Fantasy 14 Easter theme hatching tide (opens in new tab) event that airs on April 13. As with other holiday events, you complete some quests and receive rewards such as mounts, clothing, and items to place in your home. This year, Eat Egg is the main attraction, but the screenshot has many players questioning how it works.

Mrhappy1227, who recently made a video (opens in new tab) about the event, thinks it’s a bad way to eat a boiled egg. He demonstrates why in the video, holding an egg just like Lalafell does and explaining how most of the egg would be hard to reach (with his mouth) without hitting the shell. And I think we can all agree that you don’t want to eat the shell.

Please tell me we all agree that you don’t want to eat the rind.

If the egg yolk isn’t quite right inside – maybe it’s too thick for the white – then you can’t even reach the yolk and that’s like the best part of a hard-boiled egg,” Mrhappy1227 said, holding the half-covered egg in his hand as evidence.

Mrhappy1227 took this argument to twitter (opens in new tab). The answers are broadly in agreement, but some people think the egg can be boiled, which would change everything. A hard-boiled egg requires the shell like a cup: otherwise you will have loose egg all over your hands. But the egg in the screenshot has a solid shape, or as solid as you can get with a low poly egg that wasn’t built for that level of scrutiny. If it’s cooked, there should be a spoon or something in the other hand.

There have been other suggestions on how to fix Eat Egg, but I can’t take them. “Easy, just pull enough of the shell back in to get a straw in” toxophila (opens in new tab) wrote in a reply to Mrhappy1227. I’m sorry toxophilala, that says more about your understanding of how hard-boiled eggs work than how this emote works.

I still think the skin is secondary, like the skin of an apple, and that the emote will make your character eat the whole thing. An extra protein grind wouldn’t hurt. I watched Ross O’Donovan (opens in new tab)— for whom this emote might be a reference — eat thousands of eggs like this in your stream.

Clearly, how the egg emote works is a very important question that Final Fantasy 14’s Hatching-tide event answers better next week.
