Dying Light 2’s new game mode plus is here to rock the horde

Dying Light 2’s most anticipated new game mode is now available as part of the robust 1.3.0 update. The mode means that after finishing the game once, it can be played again with modified parameters.

Developer Techland says the new systems include “new enemy behaviors, tougher encounters, new objects in the world i.e. the newly added inhibitors, and many other changes that will significantly alter the playstyle and allow the player to further develop their game. character”.

There are 30 new inhibitors along with a new legendary weapon tier, platinum parkour objectives, new enemy distributions, enemies will scale according to player level, and the addition of ‘gold’ encounters.

The patch contains several other tweaks to co-op, one fix in particular for a frustrating bug that can block your singleplayer progression after a co-op session. Techland is also gradually fixing the infinite death loops that have been in the game since launch, and now reckons they’ve found the “remaining few” examples.

More generally, the patch adds a new quest with mutated infected, while “Enemies with bows are less annoying” thanks to decreased damage output. The hooks have had their pull limitations adjusted, which means: “longer swings will reset the vertical pull values; traction will have a higher first value”.

There is a full list of bug fixes here, which includes some unspecified technical updates that are apparently supposed to improve the game’s framerate stability: which is one thing I noticed in my setup. Maybe it’s time to jump back in.

we award Dying Light 2 has an incredibly good 84% in our review, calling it “a huge and thrilling sandbox of parkour and kinetic combat”. the game has changed 5 million copies in its first month on sale, and considering how Techland has supported the original for many years, Dying Light 2 will clearly be getting substantial updates like this in the years to come.
