Days Gone Director Is Moving to Crystal Dynamics

Jeff Ross, director of the mid-range open-world zombie shooter Past days (opens in new tab)announced that it is joining tomb Raider (opens in new tab) Crystal Dynamics studio.

“I’m excited to announce that I now work at the amazing Crystal Dynamics as Design Director,” Ross wrote on twitter (opens in new tab), adding. “That’s all I can say, other than that I’m excited about the project and especially the team of really wonderful people.”

Ross did not specify which project he was working on. There’s a reasonable chance it’s Crystal Dynamics newly announced Tomb Raider (opens in new tab), as it was announced just yesterday. But he could also have been hired to help develop the perfect dark (opens in new tab) reboot, which Crystal Dynamic was surprisingly announced as a co-developer late last year, and which also recently lost a director (opens in new tab) from the project.

It’s not a direct switch. Ross left Sony Bend in 2020 after Sony decided not to greenlight a sequel to Days Gone. It’s a decision that clearly angered Sony Bend’s top management, with Ross claiming earlier this year that Sony’s management made Days Gone look like a “big disappointment”.

Admittedly, we were a little disappointed with Days Gone, as you can see from our review (opens in new tab) of the game when Sony brought it to the PC. However, it will be interesting to see what exactly Ross ends up working on at Crystal Dynamics, and if he can help inject new life into Tomb Raider, Perfect Dark, or another unannounced project from Crystal Dynamics.
