Castlevania: Nocturne teases a return to one of the series’ most beloved entries

The adaptation of Castlevania for Netflix was a very good moment, and ended with a flourish in its fourth season (opens in new tab). Netflix made it clear that while this series arc was winding down, much more was to come, including a series starring Richter Belmont and Maria Renard.

Fans of the games expected this series to have some relation to Castlevania II: Rondo of Blood. Certainly, and the teaser above gives us our first glimpse of Richter Belmont and the voices that call to him, as well as a very sweet whip. Richter is a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, the protagonists of Netflix’s first Castlevania series, and this new tale is set during the bloody period of the French Revolution.

Powerhouse Animation is the studio behind the series and this brief first look shows a Richter reminiscent of the much-loved 1993 game. It’s pretty faithful actually: the main changes seem to be that his later-entry jacket is preferred over the original blue tunic. he wore, and he lost his bandana and is no longer sleeveless.

There’s no other information on Castlevania: Nocturne, although we know it will run under the direction of new showrunner Clive Bradley. Previous leader Warren Ellis was dropped from the show after more than 60 women accused the showrunner of sexual misconductbut not before completing work on season 4.

Castlevania: Nocturne does not yet have a release date. In the meantime, maybe you can catch up on the original series, which we think is among the best game adaptations of all time (opens in new tab).
