Asus announced its latest lineup of gaming laptops and other goodies at its Republic of Gamers For Those Who Dare: Boundless virtual event, which includes two new laptops, six fashion accessories and even a new video game to go along with the set.
The first of Asus’ new lineup is the ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition. This appears to be an enhanced variant of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 2022 gaming notebook that impressed us in the review earlier this year, and even found its way into our list of best gaming laptops. It has a 2.3GHz 12th Gen i9-12950HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti or 3080 Ti for the full upgrade experience – although we’re worried about what that might do to battery life considering how short she was regularly editing.
In addition to these specs, it still has the massive 32GB of DDR5 RAM, which can be upgraded to 64GB, and an impressive 1440p 240Hz refresh screen. This is a high-end gaming laptop and it makes that very clear by having the well-known ROG aesthetic. It goes a step further with invisible ink designs only readable with a UV light that will offer clues to that special video game we mentioned earlier.
SCAR Runner is the aptly named game that Asus released alongside this special edition laptop. It’s a first-person parkour game that has a bit of a Ghostrunner feel to it. There is a competition to win prizes, including a Strix SCAR 17 SE. Although having one is already useful given these secret UV messages.
Along with the new SCAR 17, Asus is also releasing a new ROG Flow X16 Convertible Laptop. It comes in three different variants, all with an AMD Ryzen™ 9 6900HS CPU. From there, you can choose between an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti, 3060, or 3070 Ti to pair with that processor.
This laptop also has what Asus is calling a ROG Nebular HDR display. This is a 165Hz touchscreen that rotates and has a 3ms response time. It might not be the gaming device of choice for something like the Strix Scar, but it’s still a really cool looking compact laptop.
To go along with all that cyberpunk gamer aesthetic, new products have been added to the ROG Slash fashion line: new bags and caps that feature high-quality construction with water-repellent TPU materials. They don’t seem to have the fashion sense of any of the laptops, but if you like making sure all your stuff matches, then you have a few more options at your disposal.
This hardware is quite unlikely to be cheap given the impressive specs, and the same goes for branded products. Still, we’re looking forward to seeing these beasts in person at some point to give our full thoughts.
