CD Project confirmed that a new wizard game is in development, “using a new saga for the franchise”.
The new game will be built using Unreal Engine 5 rather than CD Projekt’s REDengine, which the studio said will start “a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games”.
“It covers not just licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as possible future versions of Unreal Engine where relevant,” said CD Projekt. “We will collaborate closely with the developers at Epic Games with the primary goal of helping to adapt the engine for open-world experiences.”
No other details about the game, including a possible release date, have been revealed, but the teaser image included in the announcement suggests, as already mentioned. expected, that the new game will not feature Geralt. The snow-covered Witcher locket is hard to distinguish, but it’s definitely not from the School of the Wolf. To my mind, the ears and nose have the appearance of the Cat School, an outcast school that apparently is the only one that trains women and non-humans.
It’s also the medallion carried by Ciri in The Witcher 3, although she didn’t get it from school, but got it from a bounty hunter hired to kill her – which could point to a post-Witcher 3 series. We will definitely be following closely.
