renew ip address

My connection drops and I have to keep renewing my ip address. I don`t know if the problem is in the computer or with my dish. I have an HP and I do NOT want to try to talk to those people to try to figure this out and my dish( Wild Blue) support is just as bad. Any suggestions?
The event log is ugly. The computer has been assigned an ip but it seems to be trying to use a different ip address. I`m going to send the info out to everybody I can think of( HP support etc) and see if I can get answer. Thanks for your help. Debbie
Assuming you are using 2000 or XP, have a look in your Event Viewer, in both your System and Application logs and see if there's any relevant errors displayed.
If there is, try searching on the Event ID # and/or some of the text of the error. It should lead you to finding a solution.
