Best Free Registry Cleaner
The registry is what keeps your computer running; it tells the computer what to do when certain events happen. However, as you use your computer, a lot of unwanted and unnecessary information is written into the registry, and this usually occurs because you've installed and uninstalled programs or updated versions of existing programs. This gradual accumulation of unneeded or incorrect information will, over time, slow the speed of your computer.
A registry cleaner tries to get rid of this unwanted data and restore your PC to full speed. The problem is that the cleaning process is less than perfect. In particular, there is always a small risk that the registry cleaner may incorrectly remove data that is actually needed. In the worst case scenario, your PC may become unusable as a result.
That's why it's absolutely essential that you backup your registry before using a registry cleaner. For most users the easiest way to do this is to create a system checkpoint. An even better way is to use a drive-imaging program to create a snapshot of Windows, which you can use for system recovery if needed. As an added layer of protection, that may actually be more effective than System Restore, consider using the excellent ERUNT utility.
This ever-present risk of problems is why the "best" registry cleaner is the one that causes the fewest problems, rather than the one that finds the greatest number of registry errors.
EasyCleaner is our top recommendation. Historically, it has proven that it doesn't create problems, and it periodically updates its list of "registry values" that must not be cleaned under any circumstance. It also detects and deletes duplicate files and cleans up all your temporary files to provide more usable disk space, but this should be viewed as a bonus rather than the primary function of the product.
Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is another option, but it lacks many of EasyCleaner's features. Despite this fact, it has a reasonably good track record.
Another option is a program called RegSeeker, but we've determined that it has caused numerous problems, so we're reluctant to recommend it.
Comodo Registry Cleaner is a new addition to registry cleaning solutions (many of the readers have already suggested this). There is also a portable zip file available, which is suitable if you want to add it to your "trouble-shooting" USB stick. A review of this cleaner is on-going (both on XP and Vista) and will be published shortly.

I have tried all most all the registry cleaners and understood that most of the Registry cleaners make the system unstable. This was my belief till I tried Eusing registry cleaner.Eusing has got an upper hand than other registry cleaners due to many reasons. You can find a complete review at www.anishlj.blogspot.com
comodo registry cleaner works fine for me,
( i like the good restore point thing/function) ccleaner is nice, but causes too many errors
I also use the comodo firewall on my xp computers
i also use Glary utilities
Comodo did something that caused Sonic Backup error on startup. No problems at all with CCleaner.
Comodo reg cleaner is a problem, anyone on this site tested it yet
Gordon

It works fine with my WinXP computer!
maGGot_SOUP
I ran CCLeaner, Iobit Wincare and comodo in that order. Comodo found over a thousand reg errors. Hope none of them are essential files!
Comodo Registry claener. Is that a joke. For several years they are unable to make a uninstall tool for their firewall software, and they expect us from beliving they have advanced knowledge of the registry!!!!!!!
Exactly!
-Their Firewall is one of the Best ones.
-Comodo BoClean is nice, too.
But the rest products (Registry Cleaner and AntiVirus)
need a lot of Work!
But they are All Freeware! Can we expect more?
Yes, there are others freeware (e.g. Eusing free registry cleaner or Glary Utilities) that allow you open registry directly from the keys found, ready to be deleted, so you can verify with more precision the rightness of deleting any item before it's too late, and it's very important because often it's not so clear to understand every item...

I found a site having a "Registry Cleaners"-Test:
http://ssupdater.com/modules/Forums/index.php?s=cdfa5521db315a0286780a08...
It looks interesting...
I use this registry cleaner
Digeus Registry Cleaner
http://www.digeus.com
Fast and reliable utility. It helps me alot.
Seems to be not free. Is it?
What about reg seeker? Have used it for years with no problem. It will back
up, clean the reg. clean streaming, and give you the option of tweaking.
The article says: "Another option is a program called RegSeeker, but we've determined that it has caused numerous problems, so we're reluctant to recommend it."
In the C.O.M.O.D.O Registry Cleaner site,
I found the following Comparison Test:
http://registry-cleaner.comodo.com/comparison.html
This Comparison Test looks thoroughly-detailed
(even the installed programs are listed) and reliable.
-Is C.O.M.O.D.O Registry Cleaner that effective?
-Any professional opinion from the Editor (Mahesh Chandrasekar)
of the 'Best Free Registry Cleaner'?
Well, I went with the recommended EasyClean Software, and although it installed easily with no problems, it did find the 512 bad entries, and I really wasn't too surprised at that, having had lots of trial and error programs on this machine (which is a laptop, hard to have a full fledged desktop while stuck in a nursing facility). Anyway, it ran and left 280 or so programs that it didn't remove, maybe they were the exceptions, the program did not tell me. BTW, I am using Vista Home Premium (pre-installed), but haven't had half the problems that I have read about. I guess I wanted to cause some problems on my own. This software seemed at first to work ok, but then I noticed that my MSN Messemger Live program would not log in, came up with an error code that it could not find my friends list (which is probably vaporized with other entries). I could not fix this program, no matter how hard I tried. I uninstalled it and downloaded it again to re-install and it wouldn't take, with total systematic failure during install (never saw that one before. But fortunately, I ran a System Restore point before installing the program and was able to restore my Messenger program. But I am stll looking for a registry cleaner that will function correctly with my setup. One commented that this was dangerous, and they weren't kidding.
How about Advanced WindowsCare? It is quit good.
New good registry cleaner that i just found: COMODO Registry Cleaner(free)
http://registry-cleaner.comodo.com/
Personally,i don't trust CCleaner...
http://www.ccleaner.com/
I also use Glary Utilities(free version)
http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html
I ran it (Comodo one and it seems fine for now.)
I found COMODO Registry Cleaner(free) on the web page named "List of List”. It was listed along with a lot of other Registry cleaner programs I read most all of the included comments informing me of what they each would do and I chose the COMODO. It dl'ed as expected. Then I unzipped and installed it. That also worked just as expected. Then I ran it and it found well over twelve hundred problems. As you may think, my little laptop has been around since early 2005, and was beginning to get disturbingly slow at doing nearly everything. I was becoming quite frustrated and desperate. Then after running the fix, low and behold, it worked. It did leave about a hundred and eighty untouched, but even so my laptop now runs like new. That was two days ago and so far I haven't found anything to complain about. I spend a lot of time on my system now that I am retired.
I can't understand the reason of so different behaviour of some reliable products in finding items when attempting to clean the registry: scanning in the same moment (one after another but without remove anything at all) with EasyClean, CCleaner, Advanced Windows Care and Glary Utilities give me totally different results by number (from 12 to 226, not in the same order) and kind of item. I thank anyone that could explain me somethig about it.
I usually use EasyCleaner for the registry, but recently, after some unistalling job, I've found better result employing Glary's Utilities. In fact the number of items found, alone, is not a valid parameter to measure the efficiency of this kind of product, but however has his own importance (especially if you are sure about the contents), and Glary's found a lot of items of uninstalled software not cleared by Easy.
I have recently been having intermitant but repeated problems with Internet Explorer not responding. Usually but not always it happens when I have multiple tabs open, am downloading a video with one and try to open a new tab. I have run Microsoft's OneCare Clean Up,
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-ca/center/cleanup.htm and it usually finds 17 registry items and always leaves 5 registry errors unfixed. I downloaded and ran Easycleaner which found 206 which freaked me out so I didn't click to fix them. I then tried Eusing and it found 1,235! WTF? I have very little knowledge about registry, basically just that if I delete/change the wrong thing I could F***up my computer even more. I have emailed Microsoft support about it and several exchanges back and forth have just left me more frustrated. There latest reply includes "So, we cannot find 5 unfixed Registry errors. Please understand that if there is no outside error on your system, we don’t need to worry about those Registry errors." Is this correct? Am I wrong in assuming the 5 (or 206 or 1,235?) are connected to Internet explorer not responding? If I use ERUNT will it return my computer to its prior state with no data loss? The difference between the 3 programs concerns me 5-206-1235 and I'm not sure what to do. Help please!
Have you tried OEM support ? It's even worse. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I doubt a Erunt restore will fix it. If you have a System Restore Point previous to those problems, try using it, if not, I would use registry cleaner from Ccleaner. It's very safe, and will produce a backup file easy to restore, just in case. Easycleaner is outdated and Eusing gives a lots of false positives.
Thanks for you reply. I downloaded IE 8 beta and so far almost no problems and when it stops responding, it can restore the previous session!
Personally I doubt if the detected registry errors are at the root of your IE problems. ERUNT only backs-up your registry and will not cause any data loss but again is unlikely to have any impact or IE performance. Rather than focus on the registry IMO it would be better to start by cleaning up with CCleaner, scanning your system for malware, and defragmenting your hard drive.
Why does nobody mention Iobit WindowsCare?
It also cleans the registry and, as I have used it for some years without any problems, it seems to be safe and efficient.
It's mentioned here: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-pc-tune-up-utility.htm
There is a New Kid in town:
***COMODO Registry Cleaner 1.0.12.16***
http://eu3.download.comodo.com/crc/download/setups/CRC_Setup_1.0.12.16_2...
Is it Bad/Good?
Excellent! C-O-M-O-D-O Registry Cleaner is the best of the bunch.
I did my own tests coparing CCleaner, Eusing, and Comodo registry cleaner and I feel that Comodo did the most thorough cleaning. With comodo, I did not delete the "unsafe entries" (apparently these are entries that may not be safe to delete, i.e. it is unsafe to delete them. This is why they are not checked by default). So far I have had no problems after cleaning several computers.
In my tests (granted I am no expert), Comodo is a strong performer. I'd like to see an update of this site that includes an assessment of Comodo Reg cleaner.
